Physician Assistant (Mental Health Service)
Duties include, but not limited to the following:
Perform assessments and triage of mental health consultation, crisis assessments and interventions on outpatients. This includes assessment of involuntary movements (AIMS), function (GAF), and depression (BECK Inventory).
Initiation and implementation of an outpatient treatment plan for the mental health patient.
Reassessment and maintenance of medication/treatment plan in consultation with supervising physician.
Provide time-limited coping skills/education groups (on topics such as anger management, assertiveness skills, stress management, family relationships and coping with depression) for patients and family members.
Provide patient and family education regarding mental disorders and their treatment, e.g.: Schizophrenia, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, Depression, Neuroleptics, and risk of tardive dyskinesia.
Provide mood disorders support group, substance abuse treatment/support groups (such as alcohol and smoking cessation) and time-limited individual, couples, and group therapy for depression and anxiety disorders
